A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Tamias sibiricus
It is a chipmunk which occurs across northern Asia from central Russia to China, Korea, and Hokkaidō in northern Japan. It has been kept in captivity as pet and in some cases released into environments other than their native ones, reason why in certain woodland areas surrounding Brussels you can now see them in the wild. People helps the colony to survive by leaving pet seeds food for them, which is why this particular chipmunk we saw, was muching for a while on seeds.

Thanks venusflytrap2000! Is not usual to catch of glimpses of mammals in the woods of Belgium. When I find one it makes a happy day for me :-)
your mammal page is so intruging, marta! thanks so much for sharing your wildlife of belgium!
I am sure Jemma! He found some seeds on the floor and he was happily munching them without minding much our presence. But when he was done he took off and did not stop in the same spot for more than 2 seconds :-)
looks like a happy guy/
Thanks, Adarsha! I thought that after moving back to Europe I would not see wild chipmunks again so I was very happy to find out that we also have them here in Belgium :-)
Lovely series Marta :)
Yes, Pieter! So many thanks for pointing this out for me! We were lucky because we passed three times by the same place and only the second time we saw there more than one. Later they were gone again. Seems like people leaves seeds for them in that place. There were many other nice things to see as you also said :-)
Hi Marta! Great you went looking for them and you were able to take some nice pictures! It is a beautiful place ,isn't it?
What a cute little one! Great series!
Another great series, Marta ... and thanks for the video!
