Black Saddlebags

Tramea lacerata

Description:

This large dragonfly takes patrolling to a whole new level! Hovering around about six feet off of the ground, Tramea lacerata appears to fly in the same pattern, keeping watch on its territory. This one landed about three meters away.

Habitat:

Found patrolling around an open area in sandy pine barrens at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. There was a lake on one of the other trails, but I didn't check it out. I hope to in the future.

Notes:

Lifer!
