Black-necked stork (Jabiru)

Description:

A large stork with iridescent feathers on the neck and head of adult birds and a heavy beak.

Habitat:

Melbourne zoo captive specimen

Notes:

Native to northern Australia. A distinct subspecies occurs through Asia. This is locally known as the jabiru and has an important place in Aboriginal fokelore. The word jabiru refers also to an American stork species.

Love Jabirus Martin. Have spent a lot of time seeking them out in the wild. Such a treat when you find one.
