Leaf Beetle

Unidentified Eumolpinae

Description:

Coleoptera; Chrysomelidae; Eumolpinae; Unidentified Eumolpinae. This is my third spotting, of this kind of beetle, on Project Noah and I still can't improve on my rather weak identification, Unidentified Eumolpinae. As I mentioned in my previous spottings, I believe this leaf beetle to be Colasposoma viridicoeruleum Motschulsky, 1860 which is not documented present in Philippines. Because I am not a very good photographer, I always have trouble with iridescent, sparkly insects. I just can't seem to get the pictures in focus. However, it was even more difficult this time, the beetles kept hiding on the underside of the leaf. So, I had to turn the leaf over with my left hand and hold the camera with the right. The problem is that my arm is not long enough to enable any kind of successful focusing. So it all became rather comical, with me getting into positions like a contortionist. The result is the very poor pictures above, but it was all good fun. :-).

Habitat:

Spotted on Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas) in our backyard vegetable plot yesterday. This plant is known here as Kamote.
