Dusky-Blue Groundstreak

Calycopis isobeon

Description:

This little Hairstreak was constantly moving it's tails on the end of it's wings. Next to the eye-spot, this is deceptively convincing as the head end of the butterfly. It never opened it's wings. This same species was also seen in October at a lower elevation: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/155....

Habitat:

Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.

Notes:

For pictures of the adult (and with the wings open) see: http://butterfliesofamerica.com/calycopi.... For pictures of the larva of this species see: http://butterfliesofamerica.com/calycopi....

Thank you so much Cindy for the species! I see this one every once in a while and can never get it with the wings open.
