Lupin/Lupine

Lupinus

Description:

Lupinus is a very large genus, including over 200 different species. Usually Lupines are a perennial plant, but they can be annual plants and even shrubs. These are popular ornamental plants that are often grown in gardens and there are many hybrids available.

Habitat:

They seem to prefer cooler, more moist environments.

Notes:

I noticed these beautiful pink Lupines on the edge of the marsh trail. I'm not sure how "wild" they are, since they are a flower often grown in gardens, they could easily have spread from somewhere else around town. Later in the summer I also noticed some pretty purple Lupines growing on a bank next to the lake. I have seen many in gardens through the years.
