They're attached to the wood of the roof and I'm pretty sure they aren't molds or fungi but eggs, but I don't know which insect, perhaps ant as suggested by Jemma...?

Are you certain that they are not in fact molds or some kind of fungi? They could be as they are attached to (growing from?) wood.
