Celithemis eponina
Small female dragonfly, resting on her favorite weeds (a typical behavior) and zipping around. Dragonfly season for northern N. America is from mid-June to mid-August.
Spotted in a meadowland, but these dragonflies are found from N. America to Central America.
Thank you both for the ID!
Geodialist, I was visiting the Hibernia mines; the map location is a bit off. Do you know what the area is known for? Bats. I had the sour luck of seeing only one as it flew across my windshield. :( It was the wrong time of year.
This individual is a female Halloween Pennant dragonfly, as indicated by its yellow stigma. BTW, what are you doing in NJ, mauna?
