Goatweed leafwing

Anaea andria

Description:

Known for it's dead-leaf mimicry on it's underwing and bright orange outer wing which is often time folded and unseen at rest. This is a medium-small sized butterfly. Top wings have a notable hook shape that make their appearance distinct

Habitat:

West central ga. Host plant is goatweed (croton sp)

Notes:

These butterflies are notoriously shy in my opinion and I've been trying to get close enough to get a decent shot for about two weeks. This one finally gave in to my chase and allowed me within a few inches for a photo! Yay!
