Hooded Merganser

Lophodytes cucullatus

Habitat:

Canal/deciduous habitat.

Notes:

This merganser made me work for this shot. It was diving and feeding on the bottom of the canal, so I timed how long it went under each time. As it went down, I would sprint and count, drop to my belly and wait. I did this several times before I was out of breath and just took the shots the next time he came up:)

Ha! Thanks Jemma! Not sure what was going on. I had to edit and reload the picture to get it to finally go. Oh well. Mergansers are nowhere close to the pied-bill grebes:)

Thanks Ashley! I don't mind working for my pics, although I had to rest for a bit when I finally got the shot:)

It took a while for the fully loaded picture to come up! All I could see was it's head sticking out!

This bird can not be as bad as the pied billed grebe.
Cool pic!
