Mituliodon tarantulinus
About 35mm overall; big furry palps; attractive cream-grey-black-brown patterns on the thorax; some small spots on abdomen.
Searching for prey on a stone wall at midnight.
Thanks to valgaavmiko for direction on this.... Family: MITURGIDAE subfamily: Diaprograptinae genus: Mituliodon http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:b... http://www.findaspider.org.au/find/spide...
Fabulous info thanks so much valgaavmiko. I'll check up on it later today.
This isn't Lycosidae. The eyes are not correct for that family. Lycosidae will have a pair of eyes that are larger than the others and are foward-facing. From your picture, I would think this would be Miturgidae, genus Miturga, of which you have 29 native species.
Ha! I agree it does look similar. At 35mm including legs they would have to be really tiny birds.
