Shy Filefish

Cantherhines verecundus

Description:

Shy Filefish spotted on the reef off Makaha Beach, Oahu, Hawaii.

Notes:

This guy really lives up to his name, and was extremely difficult to photograph. He would swim along the sea floor and wedge himself into tiny crevasses in the coral to hide. Additionally, this fish can change color from a dark tone to a light/dark splotchy pattern resembling camouflage.
