Dog vomit slime mold

Fuligo septica

Description:

Numerous patches found growing in same 20' strip of wood mulch. The older variety looked like runny pancake batter (beige to tan) with a dark amber liquid seeping from it that looked like molasses. The younger variety looked like cheese -- bright yellow/orange like the faux powdered cheddar in boxed macaroni and cheese, but less powdery and more granulated, like grated parmesan. Did not attempt to add either to my lunch. :)

Habitat:

Found both of these growing on red-dyed wood-chip mulch; mulch was around the flowerbeds of a local high school.
