Western Screech Owl

Description:

Now you see me, Now you don't! The Western Screech Owl is a small owl, only about 22 cm tall. It's mottled and striped coloring in browns and grays provide excellent camouflage in the native oaks of the West Coast. They completely disappear against the bark of the trees! This little bird is blind and is cared for by the Audubon Society's "Eyes in the Sky". Dedicated volunteers show many of the birds in rehabilitation to the public.

Habitat:

Gardens of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
