Painted Reed Frog

Hyperolius marmoratus taeniatus

Description:

Hyperolius is a large genus of frog in the Hyperoliidae family. It has 129 species, and new members are still being discovered. This one was found in the middle of the day, resting on a leaf in the sun.

Habitat:

Bush, on a leaf

Notes:

At the 4th picture you can see sand on his back. He really did not like the sand and he kicked frantically to get rid of it when climbing on my hand.

Nice spotting! I also love the last picture showing its size and how it nicely sits on your fingers :-)

I found him like that, and when picking him up he felt very comfortable (for some strange reason) and continued to relax on my finger... Cool froggie for sure :)

Very nice. Is it sleeping on your finger in the last picture?
Or, is it meditating ;-)

Fanie and Ashley, thank you for this! I had no idea that this little buddy was one of the "tricky ones". But I am very happy with a genus, and I will keep my eyes open for adults looking a bit more like the one in your link Fanie. I have one more day here to search for smal wonders (oh, and work of course :) )

Difficult one. I think it is a juvenile painted reed frog (Hyperolius marmoratus).
There is a photo here: http://eol.org/data_objects/25759547

I'm afraid I can only get to Genus on this one, there are a lot of Reed Frogs, and they are all incredibly variable. Hope this helps some!
