Terrapene carolina

Description:

Box turtles have a high domed shell and they deal themselves inside like a box. They have a hinge on the bottom shell that allows them to completely seal up. The way you tell a male from female is by the eye color. Males have reddish-orange eyes and females have brown eyes.

Habitat:

Meadows and woodland areas.

Notes:

Box turtles are omnivores, meaning they eat fruits, vegetables and meat, like berries, plants and earthworms.
