Description:

*Adult Male Description: 1) stocky, medium-sized (around 9-inches) shorebird, 2) short, dark, wedge-shaped bill with a slight upturn, 3) short orange legs, 4) black and white pattern on face, 5) white lower back, 6) white tail with black terminal band. Breeding Plumage: A) bright reddish-brown sides. *Adult Female Description: Slightly duller than male; browner head with more streaking. *Juvenile and Immature Description: Resembles winter adult, but slightly more brownish overall with paler head.

Habitat:

*Specific habitat: I spotted this bird at the public beach at Orange Beach, Alabama. *General Habitat: Ruddy Turnstones are shorebirds.

Notes:

-- Turnstones forage by turning over stones and other objects.
