Fuligo septica
Quite varied in it's appearance through the different stages in it's life cycle, this time I poked it to reveal a solid, dark brown spore mass. It had climbed up onto a coniferous tree stump as they seem to like doing for some reason. as read here http://www.ispotnature.org/node/455548 the common name for Fuligo Septica is "Flowers of Tan" and Mucilago crustacea is "Dog's Vomit". Apparently the confusion has come from a popular website referring to Fuligo septica as Dog's Vomit slime mould and, as often happens on the internet, the mistake has gone viral
