Wood Duck

Aix sponsa

Habitat:

Pond

Notes:

This showy little duck was seen close to the trout farm and petting zoo. The males are brightly colored and the females are drab to protect the ducklings from predators. This one may have been introduced and was quite tame. This species raises its young in trees and can often be found perched in one.
