Cave Salamanders

Eurycea lucifuga

Description:

A beautiful red-orange salamander covered by black spots and blotches. Pictured are two different individuals.

Habitat:

Found at Snake Road in southern Illinois. The salamander in the first photo was found near the bluffs. The second was found in a cave-like crevice farther down the road in the bluffs. In the "cave" were many cave salamanders and long-tailed salamanders.
