Twin-lobed Deerfly

Chrysops relictus

Description:

It's hard to take a picture of this fly without letting it land somewhere on your body. I was able to take the picture before it bit my finger, but then I felt a painful bite from another one on the underside of the arm. The lenght is around 9 mm and it has a pair of diverging twin black lobes on the beginning of the abdomen, uniting at the base to form an inverted yellow V mark. The wings have dark transverse bands. The eyes reflect the light and are beautifully colored.

Habitat:

Moorland inside forest.

Notes:

Norwegian name: Blinding
