Silk Moth Cocoon

Antherea polyphemus

Habitat:

This cocoon was found on a twig on the edge of a fresh water marsh.

Notes:

It had a spider hiding in its bottom. It was too dark inside to see it clearly. At first I was thinking the the spider created it. Then looked on a bird nest site because it looks similar to a hummingbird nest. I found it there on a page of pictures people had sent in that were not birds nests.
