Sphaerechinus granularis
--------- S. granularis is a large sea urchin, somewhat flattened dorsally and growing to fifteen centimetres in diameter. There are two distinct colour forms. The test is purple in both but one has purple spines and the other white. The spines are short and blunt, all the same length, and arranged neatly in rows.
Fondos rocosos Mediterráneo. S. granularis is found in the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic Ocean, from the Channel Islands south to Cape Verde and the Gulf of Guinea. It favours sheltered locations and lives on rocks covered with seaweed or gravelly substrates
Se cubre de algas (en el caso de la foto con Padina pavonica) para protegerse del intenso sol. ------ They use seaweeds (Padina pavonica in this case) to protect themselves from the sun. La Azohía

¡Felicitaciones!
Isabel, congratulations for earning a Spotting of the Day with this colorful observation! Many people might not know that you are one of our earliest members having joined us back in 2010! You were also the very first Project Noah member to pass 1,000 spottings :) I thought I'd add a bit of PN history to this Spotting of the Day and thank you for keeping us in your heart for so many years. Congrats again!
