I found this tiny caterpillar on a velvet-bean plant pod. I know there is a velvetbean caterpillar (Anticarsia gemmatalis), but could not find enough examples to make a decision.

Yeah Jemma, I'm still stumped on is one. I've come across some hunches, but none that are positive matches.

That is the exact link that I had found that made me think it could be. I should have disturbed the little guy to get a peek at its head. Thanks for the suggestion.

May be. It has the lateral stripe, and the bumps. Looks similar to this one:
