Eastern Gray Treefrog

Hyla versicolor

Description:

Large toe pads, variable color from green to gray, yellow/orange splashed on their hind legs (seen in the second picture). Virtually indistinguishable from Cope's Grey Tree Frog, unless you compare their calls, chromosome number, or blood cell size. Please don't hurt the frog to draw blood to test the last factor, however.

Habitat:

Yard with pond, bordered by trees and a small stream.

Notes:

Able to climb very well, thanks to its enlarged foot pads. Found in the eastern US and Canada, sometimes uses ponds to breed. For more information, check: http://www.herpnet.net/Iowa-Herpetology/... http://www.ohioamphibians.com/frogs/gray...

And here I was, excited that someone knew what species of frog it was. ;) Oh well, I'll continue my search.
