Description:

Juncos are small perching birds in the Sparrow family. The Oregon variety has a distinctive black 'hood' resulting in the nickname 'executioner bird'. Adults male: Black head and neck, grey-brown body, buff chest and reddish-brown back. Juvenile: Brown and buff bod, Brown head, spotted chest.

Habitat:

Woodlands, clearings and parks. This one has built a nest in the hedge in my front yard.
