Australian Tarantula

Phlogiellus spp.

Description:

Imagine that your teeth were attached to legs. Imagine that they were hollow and sharp and connected to a venom sac that is surrounded by muscles so that it can shoot out the venom. Imagine having feet that have such tiny hairs on them they can stick to glass or if they need to hold onto something, tiny claws can extend out of them. Imagine being so scary that if you walked into a room everything will go quiet and creatures ten times your size will back away from you in fear.

Habitat:

This tarantula is not fully described, found in the rainforests of North East Queensland and is believed to have come from South East Asia.

Excellent spider David. I had no idea there were real tarantulas in Australia. Maybe up to a dozen species or so including the 'barking' and 'whistling' spiders. This one is really good looking too. Something to search for next time I visit north. Thanks for an fabulous spotting.
