Lauxaniid Fly

Description:

Small fly, 5 mm in length, of the Family Lauxaniidae. The first 3 pictures are the female, the last picture shows a female with two smaller males.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

The larvae are mostly saprophagous, feeding in leaf litter, soil, bird nests, etc.Larvae of some mine fallen leaves, others live in rotten wood.
