Bucephala albeola
Small duck, black and white with a faintly iridescent, triangular head. Very timid.
Enclosed portions of the bay in winter, small lakes in summer.
Flocks of these ducks, as well as Ruddy ducks and Canvasbacks, wintered near Annapolis' city dock this year. Most are gone now, save this one confused and lonely Bufflehead. It spends its days flying partway to the dock, then letting the current take it back out. Repeatedly.
