Pinicola enucleator
Pine forest at 10,000' near Cumbres pass
This was the closest I could get - it was at the top of a very tall pine tree.
Having finally found a photo of a Purple Finch it has a whiter belly and yellowish bill, so I will go with your ID. Thank you both.
I agree with John on this one. The head shape is spot on. the gray under the eye. photos four and five show the reddish coloration to the end of the back.
Hi avesjohn, I have found all the original pictures and redeveloped them with my new program and added them to this spotting. The original picture has also been redeveloped (recropped original, adjusted exposure & contrast).
Thank you for your suggestion avesjohn. I am not totally convinced because it does not appear to have any red on the back below the neck, although the bill to head line and pattern around the eye are correct and there may be a reddish tinge around the belly. I will look at any other photos I have of this spotting first. It did not look big enough from a distance. Is it out of area for a Purple Finch?
