Tropical Kingbird

Tyrannus melancholicus

Description:

A flycatcher that often migrates north into the western United States during the fall. They are distinguished from the similar-looking western kingbird with the yellow underside that extends up to the chin and the longer bill.

Notes:

Although this bird is regular on the Pacific coast every year, it is quite rare in Santa Clara County. This individual was sought out by many birders during its week long stay in the area.
