Winged Sumac

Rhus copallinum

Description:

Large shrub or small tree. Physical appearance is similar to others in this genus. Branches with leaves also have leaf "wings" (see image 2). Leaves are smooth and shiny. Flowers are initially green with yellow and mature to a reddish-brown when going to seed.

Habitat:

Overgrown field area. Yorktown National Battlefield Park, Virginia.
