Chimney Swift

Chaetura pelagica

Description:

A fast-flying bird that seems to never stop flying, feeding and skimming the surface of ponds for water on the wing. They are incapable of landing on twigs and can only cling to vertical surfaces like cliff faces or the sides of chimneys. Due to the decreasing usage of chimneys which often provide perfect nest sites, these swifts have undergone population reductions in recent years.
