I came across an Acacia like plant I had never seen before in the garden of a hotel in town. It was a small tree with bright pink inflorescences like puff balls. The buds were like raspberries. The seed pod was small (3rd picture) and when dry, curls to open and drop it's seeds. Family Fabaceae.
San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Yes it's pretty scary especially starting so early in Spring time.. what will it be like this Summer !!?
Thank you Mark. So sorry to hear about all the terrible fires in Australia!
Hi Lauren - family Fabaceae not Acacia (in spite of common name) ... legume, pea, or bean family.
