Leaf-tailed Gecko

Uroplatus sp.

Description:

large nocturnal gecko, about 30cm (1')

Habitat:

rainforest

Notes:

My guide pointed out this superbly camouflaged leaf-tailed gecko. Even while looking right at it, it was still hard to see! This was outside the visitors centre at Andasibe Mantidia National Park.

Animal camouflage is THE thing I like more in nature. I just can't figure out what steps these critters took to reach that perfection. Aniway, both spots are fantastic, congratulations.
