dune grass circles

Ammophila breviligulata

Description:

It was one of those blustery island days when the wind whips in from all directions. On this occasion we happened to be on the beach as the wind blew the grass in just the right way to draw hundreds of circles in the sand. The sand circles were there for 5-10 minutes and then erased by the same wind that made them.

Habitat:

North American coasts.

Notes:

I have no idea what kind of critter left those foot prints. There were no domestic animals on the beach that day.
