Description:

Quite variable. Upperside orange-brown, darker at base, with black outer margins; male has black scales on veins. Underside of hindwing with basal disk chocolate brown or purplish, hindwing spots always silvered.

Habitat:

Forest openings, upland pastures, bogs, meadows, and moist canyons.
