Harlequin Duck

Histrionicus histrionicus

These are pretty little ducks with males in chestnut and gray colors with numerous white spots and lines.

These ducks tend to live in rushing rivers, swimming in rapids. These particular ducks were photographed at LeHardy Rapids in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

Yes, I really wanted to catch the feeling of the place where these ducks live so was using a shutter speed of about a half second to blur the water. Of course, the ducks didn't want to stand still...grin. Had to take a lot of photos to get one where the ducks were fairly sharp.

Oh this is really nice, I like the composition and the effect on the rapids (slow shutter speed?). They are very pretty ducks!
