Tree Swallow

Tachycineta bicolor

Description:

Glossy blue above and white below, small black bill, notched tail.

Habitat:

Perched in the brush near a footpath in an urban, waterfront park. There are nesting boxes for the swallows just a few feet away by the water's edge.

Notes:

Spotted just after 6pm. Was preening in low branches a few feet away from nest boxes for the swallows (the current boxes are new, but there have been boxes in place for several years at least). Shortly after these pictures were taken this male returned to a box where a female was perched on top and, um, nature took its course.
