Adults are 12 to 22 millimeters (1/2 to 1 inch) long. The pronotum is a pale yellowish-orange with a black spot.
I found this beetle in a deciduous forest. It tends to lay eggs on dead animals; the larvae feed on the flesh and other species of carrion maggots.
