Harmonia conformis
About 10mm long. Orange with black markings which sometimes touch.
Crawling along the stem of a native Fabaceae.
Darker form?
Yes, Martin, the only one I can think of with those spots on the mid-line: http://www.ento.csiro.au/biology/ladybir...
I do think it is the common Large spotted ladybird beetle; Harmonia conformis. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/384... but I've never seen one so dark. They begin adult life without spots at all. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/639...
