Mango Flower Beetle

Protaetia fusca

Description:

Scarabaeidae; Cetoniinae; Protaetia; Protaetia fusca (Herbst, 1790). There are Mango Trees in our backyard and all over the local area. So, this beetle is extremely common here and I am very familiar with it. However, I did not recognise this one, this afternoon, when I was taking pictures. When I enlarged the pictures on my laptop, I was really surprised to see what it was. The reason is that this one is a very tiny juvenile. It was no more than 5 or 6 mm. long and I could not see the yellow patterns (it just looked plain brown until I zoomed in on the computer screen).

Habitat:

Spotted in our front yard on Fancy-leaf caladium (Caladium bicolor), locally known as Corazon de Maria. Plant identification - http://www.stuartxchange.org/CorazonDeMa...
