Funnel Web Spider

Agelenidae ssp.

Description:

The unique web of this group of spiders is more often noticed than the spider itself. It is sheetlike, usually positioned horizontally, with a funnel leading downward. This large web covered about one square foot, or .3 square meters. The funnel hole was slightly less than 1 inch or 2.5 cm.

Habitat:

In the grass along the path of an urban park.

Notes:

Several webs, only this one had the spider out of the funnel.
