Was told this is a Grebe, however, I'd be interested in knowing exactly what kind of Grebe it is.

Yea it's the right time of year for young birds. He looks old enough though that it makes sense the parents aren't around anymore. I love finding these guys, they are so cute!

Lots of baby birds at the local Reserve right now, so it wouldn't surprise me if this one is young. Odd that I didn't see any parents though.

He seems to be a younger one by having the white chest and not having the black ring on the bill very dark yet, but the ring on the bill is diagnostic for this species :)
