Yes, you can pick them right up. They do not seem to care but be careful as they are slightly toxic. You just have to make sure to wash after holding one and don't let any dogs lick them. They are a problem in some areas as they have shorted lights and electricity when there are too many of them.

These guys are one of the first wildlife for us to encounter when we moved to florida years ago. They surround your porch lights, or any light outside at night. Some nites there would be more then a dozen near one light on the back porch. They get very large too, and aren't afraid of much. They will let you pick them right up.
