Congratulations, your turtle is featured in the Project Noah blog! http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/5115997...
I really enjoy this spotting, and I believe that my ID suggestion for the turtle is accurate, based on the photos and spotting location which match up with what I see in my Terralog book for turtles of Central and South America.
Dryas iula, the butterfly. Amazing picture!! But it is quite usual for butterflies to drink from the eyes of crocos and turtles to get some minerals.
Wow. That must be one sweet fella to have both bee and butterfly attractions :-)
Got to show it to my son.. he's a recent Noah follower! Nicely taken series..
So do you list it as a turtle or a butterfly? I wonder if there is a way to do a double animal listing. On the last picture, it looks like a huge snake over the log.
This is such a cute encounter! you were so lucky to find this turtle with the butterfly "hat".
Is a lovely set of pictures!
