Heliconia

Heliconia sp

Description:

The leaves of this plant look like the typical Heliconia we have with the large "claws" or "beaks." However this has small narrow flowers that were about 20 cm x 70 cm..

Habitat:

This was deeper in covered jungle in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.

Notes:

I haven't noticed these before, which means it isn't as common as the larger ones, or I haven't been as observant as I am now. It is quite striking.
