Mushroom

Description:

1 3/4 inches diameter cap; 3 inches tall

Habitat:

spotted in large yard under oak trees

Notes:

Interesting that in the second photo the pink color has been 'eaten' away. I have seen grey squirrels eat these mushrooms, but they devour the caps and discard the stems.

I believe you're right on russula; and trust me, I'd never take culinary advice from a limb-rat.

Probably a Russula sp. Try breaking the stem: does it crack off in a block, kind of like chalk? then it could be a Russula. Animals will eat many mushrooms that we can't, so don't take the squirrels say-so for edibility.
