Monarch Butterfly Caterpillar

Danaus plexippus

Description:

The caterpillar is banded in white, black, and yellow stripes. The head and tail each sports two black filaments. Length is about 5 cm (2 in) at the largest stage. The adults are large butterflies with orange and black wings.

Habitat:

I found this caterpillar in dry prairie next to a wetland.
