Melanargia galathea
White with dark brownish pattern. Wingspan ~37 - 52 mm.
Common in all of central Europe to northern Spain, Italy and southern England, eastern Europe (as far as Turkey) and parts of northern Africa. Altitudinal border is at about 1750 m (a.s.l.). This butterfly prefers poor grassland or extensively used pasture, especially on calcareous substrate.
